Lisa Nguyen

My name is Ngoc Anh Thu Nguyen but I also go by the name “Lisa”, I’m a second-year student at York University, Liberal Arts and Professional Studies Department. However, this is my first year in Information Technology pursuit, I just changed my major in September 2023 from a Business major. With that being said, I do not have plenty of knowledge of modern technology or experience in mechanical repairs. I’m also not a handy person so I barely fixed anything in my life. Therefore, iFixit will be a challenging but intriguing journey for me, in which I hope I can get some hands-on experience, expand my horizon and contribute to making “technology a sustainable part of our lives” - which is the objective of the co-founder of iFixit, Kyle Wiens.

Currently, I’m pursuing the Cybersecurity sector, starting by learning some fundamentals in Information Technology. I understand that this is an intense path, and I need to learn about how to “fix” the vulnerabilities in a system or how to secure a network, they work the same way as fixing things - identify the errors, make the things function properly again and maintain maintenance.

Tech Innovators is an innovative educational initiative that was proudly awarded in an Innovation Competition in 2021, it was designed to inspire and equip high school students (15-18 years of age) in Vietnam with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue careers in Information Technology (IT).

By organizing a series of 4 interactive workshops, this project bridged the gap between academic learning and real-world IT practices, raising awareness of the diverse opportunities within the tech industry, and attracting an average of nearly 400 students at each event. The project collaborated with 2 leading IT corporations in Vietnam to provide hands-on experiences, allowing students to engage with cutting-edge technologies, from coding, and networking fundamentals to cybersecurity core knowledge.

I earned the CompTIA Security+ ce Certification in late October 2023. This credential validates the essential skills needed to perform core security functions in cybersecurity roles. Certified professionals possess the expertise to identify and address threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities, as well as proficiency in risk management, risk mitigation, threat management, and intrusion detection techniques.

Learn new languages, practice coding, listen to pop music, watch dramatic movies and spend time with beloved family members and friends.
