This move develops a knight and attacks the defenseless g-pawn. The problem with this move is that White can play 2. g5 to attack the knight, which does not have a good square to retreat besides h5 and its starting square. The move 2...Ng4 is particularly bad as the knight gets trapped after 3. d4.
