A common recipe for wacky cake follows.

• 3 cups sifted flour
• 1½ cups white granulated sugar
• 1 cup cocoa powder
• 2 tsp baking soda
• 1 tsp salt
• 2 cups water
• ¾ cups vegetable oil
• 2 tbsp vinegar
• 2 tsp vanilla

1. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, and baking soda in a large bowl.
2. Add water, oil, vinegar and vanilla. Blend thoroughly.
3. Pour into a greased square cake pan.
4. Bake at 180°C or 350°F for 35–40 minutes.
5. Cool completely.
