Corps-Style Marching/Technique/Crab Step

Crab steps are a special technique used by the drumline for moving sideways. The hip-twist sliding technique used by the winds is not feasible here because of the way drums are carried, so crab stepping is specially designed to keep both the hips and upper body facing forward while moving sideways.

The First Step

[Placeholder. I don't crab step, so please fill this in with the proper technique. If there is a big difference between crabbing to the left and crabbing to the right, it may be sensible to cover both. A left foot step-off is always assumed. 100 beats per minute has been used as a neutral slow-ish tempo to learn at]
