Metallic Nanostructures

Gold

The red color in some stained glasses has through centuries been made from gold nanoparticles, and it's also gold particles that make the red color in many pregnancy tests. Gold nanoparticles are used in many technological devices: they usually have a red color because of a localized surface plasmon resonance, and their noble metal properties make them good for specific binding of molecules with thiol groups.

Copper

When copper is viewed on the nano level, several changes occur. The temperature of the metal decreases, as well as the fatigue limit decreases. Also, the tensile stress and elongation rate of the copper decreases.
