Boney Hay is a former hamlet[2] and a suburb of Burntwood in the Lichfield District in the county of Staffordshire, England. Boney Hay now forms part of the wider Burntwood civil parish and urban area.

History

Boney Hay's name derives from 1361, its name "e Burnehew", meaning "waste". It underwent different names such as "Burnehay" and then "Bornehay" in the 16th century.[3] In 1571, there was only a single house in the area.[4]

In the late 19th century, Boney Hay began to see rapid population growth due to the Industrial Revolution and coal mines in the area.[5]

After the closure of the coal mines, the hamlet was merged into the Burntwood parish and is now a residential area and ward of the town.[6]

Amenities

Boney Hay is located close to the Heart of England Way footpath[7] and to the north of Burntwood town centre. The area has a small shopping centre located on Parkhill Road. As well as the nearby area of Chase Terrace.
