The Gigabit Infrastructure Act (GIA) is an EU regulation on the rollout of gigabit per second broadband.
Background
The act was based on the Digital Economy Act 2017.[1]
Provisions
The legislation replaced the Broadband Directive.[2]
The legislation rest.ricts the price which farmers can charge to telecoms companies.[1]
The act includes a mechanism for conciliation between the public sector and operators to improve planning permission procedures.[3]
Implementation
An implementation period of 18 months was included in the legislation.[4]
Further developments
The proposed Digital Networks Act did not include any equivalent land access provisions.[5]
