Istanbul Gedik University is a private foundation university in Istanbul, Turkey. Founded in 2010 by the Gedik Education Foundation, the university aims to promote collaboration between academia and industry and to educate specialists for various fields.[1]

History

Istanbul Gedik University was established on 3 March 2010 by the Gedik Education Foundation, initiated by industrialist Halil Kaya Gedik. The university incorporated the previously founded Gedik Vocational School and has since expanded its academic offerings and research capacity.[1]

Administration

The university is governed by a rector and a board of trustees under the oversight of the Gedik Education Foundation. The current rector, as of 2025, is Prof. Dr. Ahmet Karaaslan. The board of trustees is chaired by Hülya Gedik.

Research centers

The university hosts several research and application centers, including the Atatürk’s Principles and Reforms Research Center,[9] the Center for Disability Studies,[10] and centers dedicated to energy technologies, human rights, women entrepreneurship, welding technologies, and robotics.

Laboratories

The university maintains various laboratories for teaching and research, including facilities for computer science, electronics, physics, chemistry, machine technology, mechatronics, and graphic design.

Campuses

Istanbul Gedik University is organized across four campuses:

  • **Kartal Campus**: Main campus for administrative and academic units, undergraduate and graduate programs, and the School of Foreign Languages.
  • **Halil Kaya Gedik Campus**: Houses the Faculty of Health Sciences, Culinary Arts practice kitchens, and facilities for sports sciences.
  • **Gedik Vocational School Campus**: Hosts vocational and technical education programs.
  • **Nişantaşı Campus**: Includes the Continuing Education Center and graduate education activities.
