Nabila Huda binti Datuk Haji Suhaimi (born 2 December 1984) is a Malaysian actress. She first made a name for herself through antagonistic characters, she is the eldest daughter of the famous rock legend Datuk Amy, vocalist of the band Search. Nabila began her acting career in 2001 with a small role in Lagi-Lagi Senario (2001) directed by Aziz M. Osman. Among the films she starred in are Rock (2005), Akhirat (2008), Bohsia: Jangan Pilih Jalan Hitam (2009), Duhai Si Pari-pari (2009), Bohsia 2: Jalan Kembali (2012), Munafik (2016), Makrifat Cinta (2018), Rahsia (2023), Telaga Suriram (2025) and Gayong (2025).[1]

Apart from acting roles in films, Nabila is also known for her acting roles on television including Shikin in Impak Maksima the Series, Ain in Cinta Untuk Ain, Azarina in Dari Mata Arisa, Ayu in Teduhan Kasih and Aurora in Dendam Aurora. Throughout her career, Nabila has received various awards and nominations in her career as an actress. Through her performance in Munafik, Nabila won the Best Actress award at the 28th Malaysia Film Festival.[2]

Early life

Nabila Huda was born on 2 December 1984 in Kuala Lumpur. She is the eldest child of the famous rock singer and vocalist of the group Search, Suhaimi Abdul Rahman or better known as Amy Search. She, who is more affectionately called Abil, has four siblings from different mothers – Irisha Myra (born 1997), Farid Zulkarnain (born 2002), Sania Samara (born 2005) and Qaqa At-Tameemi (born 2008).[3]

Career

Early career (2000–08)

Nabila Huda began her acting career in 2000 while sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.[4] At the beginning of her involvement, Nabila managed her own career and learned about the art of acting while on set. He not only sat with other actors, but also all the individuals involved including the cameraman and scriptwriter.[5] He played a small role in the film Lagi-Lagi Senario in 2001, directed by Aziz M. Osman, then in 2004, he appeared in the telefilm Blok 404 with Zamarul Hisham.

Her big screen role came in 2005, Nabila acted in her first film, the musical comedy film directed by Mamat Khalid, Rock starring Que Haidar, Khir Rahman and Soffi Jikan where she played the role of Nurfarzana @ Foxy Lady. The following year, she was given a guest role in the comedy film Bujang Senang directed by Associate Professor Abdul Razak Mohaideen. After the success of her first film, she then played the lead role as Noni in the Malaysian drama film, Akhirat alongside Ady Putra, Vanidah Imran and Tony Eusoff, which earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 21st Malaysia Film Festival.

After a long time on the big screen, Nabila acted in the drama Impak Maksima the Series as Shikin directed by Ahmad Idham which aired on TV3. Also in 2008, she acted in the drama Ibu with Hamidah Wahab. Next, she played the main role as Ravina in the telefilm Bahang Ravina with Jasmin Hamid and Rencong with Soffi Jikan.

Wide recognition (2009–14)

Nabila began her music career by releasing her first solo single, "X-Ray" produced by Edrie Hashim. In an interview in 2018, she admitted that her career as a singer was considered the most embarrassing for her.[6][7]

She first gained widespread attention in 2009 through her performance as a bohsia girl in the social action film Bohsia: Jangan Pilih Jalan Hitam directed by Syamsul Yusof which became the biggest blockbuster in theaters.[8] Through this film, she received a nomination for Best Actress at the 22nd Malaysia Film Festival. She also received a nomination for the Best Actress (Film) category at the 2009 Screen Awards through the same film.

After the success of Bohsia, Nabila made a special appearance through the character Natasha in the comedy film Pisau Cukur directed by Bernard Chauly starring Nur Fazura and Maya Karin.[9] She later acted in the fantasy romantic film Duhai Si Pari-Pari starring Liyana Jasmay and Que Haidar. Nabila returned to the big screen by playing the main role as Ain in the 13-episode melodrama, Cinta Untuk Ain with her hero, Que Haidar which aired on Slot Lestary TV3.[10][11]

She returned to the big screen in 2012 after two years, Nabila successfully reprised her role as Tasya in the film Jalan Kembali: Bohsia 2[12] which is a sequel to the film Bohsia: Jangan Pilih Jalan Hitam (2009).[13] The film was a commercial success and earned her a nomination for Best Actress (Film) at the 2012 Screen Awards.

In 2013, she starred alongside Pekin Ibrahim and rising child actress, Puteri Balqis in the TV3 primetime drama series, Balqis. In the same year, she starred alongside Fizz Fairuz in the horror thriller film, Bisikan Syaitan directed by Faizul A. Rashid, in this film, she played the role of Soraya, the film tells the story of a couple, Soraya played by her and Kamil (played by Fizz Fairuz) who have made a bloody pact with the forces of evil in order to gain the pleasures of life. They then lived in luxury as a result of the agreement.[14]

In 2014, for her performance in Balqis, she won Best Actress at the 2014 Screen Awards. She was later given the role of Biduanita Negara, Saloma in a two-episode biopic telefilm titled, Saloma directed by Melissa Saila which aired on Astro First Exclusive.[15][16] He admitted that the biopic about the singer, Puan Sri Saloma was one of the most difficult to make.[17][18] Next, she acted alongside Nur Fathia, Arja Lee and Keith Foo by playing the antagonist role of Liyana in the prime time drama series Ariana Rose which was adapted from the novel The Wedding Breaker written by Evelyn Rose.[19][20]

Continued success (2015–present)

In 2015, he starred in the horror film paranormal thriller Gamatisme directed by Yeop Hitler Zami with Syazwan Zulkifly, this film tells the story of about Zara, a rape victim who suffers from paranormal activity after aborting her rapist's baby. When she moved to her college hostel, her friends began to experience the same harassment.[21] Zara began to be harassed by a pregnant woman[22] and acted in the drama Akulah Balqis directed by Fazli "Pali" Yahya which once again paired her with Puteri Balqis.[23][24]

Nabila made her first theatrical appearance through a theatrical performance of the novel adaptation of the Indonesian writer, Hamka, Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck which was staged at the Istana Budaya (IB) from 12 to 18 October 2015.[25] She is the host of the travelogue show Awak Kat Mana which airs on Astro Ria.[26]

In 2016, Nabila once again worked with Syamsul Yusof through the horror film Munafik which became a box office hit,[27][28] where he plays Maria.[29] The film earned her the Best Actress award at the 28th Malaysia Film Festival and Best Supporting Actress at the Kuala Lumpur Film Critics Association Awards. She was also nominated for the Best Actress (Film) category at the 2016 Screen Awards and MeleTOP Film Star at the MeleTOP Era Awards 2017 for the same film.

In late 2016, it was announced that Skop Productions would produce a sequel to the film Munafik. However, in March 2017, Nabila announced that she was withdrawing from the sequel due to her busy work schedule and was replaced by Maya Karin for this sequel titled Munafik 2.[30][31][32][33][34] She was paired with Ungku Ismail Aziz in the most successful romantic telenovela, Dendam Aurora which aired on Astro Ria,[35] tells the story of a woman named Aurora Abdullah who was imprisoned for 8 years for murder. Aurora was later released early due to good behavior.[36][37]

Back working together with Syamsul, Nabila starred in the romantic biographical drama film, Makrifat Cinta directed by Kamal G,[38] she plays the role of Zara, a woman who wants to live a happy life. The film was released on 1 February 2018.[39][40]

Nabila is one of the actors who made the online drama KL Gangster: Underworld co-directed by Syafiq Yusof and Faisal Ishak including Azhan Rani, Beto Kusyairy, Zahiril Adzim, Ezzaty Abdullah and others. KL Gangster: Underworld which is a rendition of the KL Gangster trilogy by Syamsul Yusof began airing on iflix on 16 August 2018; Nutella plays Shameen.[41] He appeared with Bront Palarae in the anthology drama Folklore which aired on HBO Asia from October 7, 2018.[42][43]

He also appeared in the music video of the song "Ragaman" sung by Faizal Tahir. Faizal said about choosing Nabila as his partner in the music video "Ragaman": "I can't imagine anyone else to play this character. Nabila is the best choice".[44]

Nabila is one of the actors who made the continuation of the theatre play Ola Bola The Musical which was staged from 18 February to 3 March 2019 at Istana Budaya. Actors involved include Luqman Hafidz, Iedil Putra, Hafeez Mikail, Tony Eusoff and Douglas Lim.[45]

Personal life

Nabila was married twice. She married Zaidi Zailani in 2008 and has a daughter named Kesha Laila who was born in 2009.[46] The couple filed for divorce in 2011.

On 25 December 2015, Nabila was legally became a wife for the second time to Mohd Izwan Johar, a hipster cafe chef.[47] She received a dowry of RM300.[48][49]

Nabila revealed in August 2018 that she had not met her father, Amy Search for three years since 2015.[50][51] She also revealed that she had a disagreement with her stepmother, Norhasniza Hassan, better known as Norish.[52]
