Partizán is one of the most popular Hungarian public life YouTube channels, run by Márton Gulyás.[2]
History
The channel was started in the autumn of 2018 by Márton Gulyás.[2] Its predecessor was the channel Slejm – a torkon ragadt politika.[3] In 2021, Zsófia Balogh and Jakab Tóth joined the channel as a presenters. Balogh has since moved to making podcasts,[4] and Tóth left the channel in 2025.[5] In 2021, Partizán was awarded the Gazdaságpolitikai és Médiatudományi Szakosztály Gazdasági Újságíró Díj (lit. 'Economic Policy and Media Studies Section Economic Journalism Award') by the National Association of Hungarian Journalists.[3]
As of November 2020, 15 people work for the channel, and 50% of the viewers are aged 18–35.[6] Partizán mostly posts interviews, but also holds political debates,[7][8][9] and make longer videos dealing with certain topics, including the takeover of the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE),[10] and the enrichment of Viktor Orbán and his family.[2]
Financing
The channel is financed by donations and tenders.[6] Through 1% donations of payroll taxes, Partizán received 191 million forints from 21,122 people in 2023,[11] and 416 million forints from 36,978 people in 2024, becoming the most donated to organization in that year.[12]
