Star Fleet Battles Cadet Training Handbook is a 1992 tabletop game supplement published by Task Force Games for Star Fleet Battles.
Contents
Star Fleet Battles Cadet Training Handbook is a supplement in which an introduction to the game aligns with the fourth edition Captain's Edition in a beginner-friendly format. Presented as a 64-page softcover, it includes hexmaps, counters, charts, forms, and Ship Systems Display (SSD) sheets—offering Cadet and Heavy Cruiser classes for each major race. Designed to ease new players into the game's intricate mechanics, the handbook features 13 progressive scenarios that teach movement, firing, power allocation, and tactical diversity across various races and weapons.[1]
Reception
Jim Swallow reviewed Star Fleet Battles Cadet Training Handbook for Arcane magazine, rating it a 6 out of 10 overall, and stated that "The book follows the TFG pattern, lightly illustrated and heavily written. For newcomers to the game the Cadet Training Handbook is a good starting point, but it does have a few flaws. Described as being suitable for the ages of ‘ten to adult’ the writing style wavers between these extremes with no middle ground, so consequently the rules are either hard going or patronising, and as rules-heavy as SFB is, a lighter touch might have been a better idea."[1]
