Stonefield House

Stonefield House

The name of the area is likely a reference to the historic "Stonefield House" on Newcastle Road. The house was originally built in 1790 and is now a Grade II listed building. It was given the listed status in July 1972 by Historic England.[4]

Its official listing entry mentions some minor alterations to the house which include:

Stuccoed brick; hipped slate roof with stucco end stacks. Double-depth plan. Georgian style. 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range; canted end bays. Top cornice and blocking course. Round-headed entrance has Tuscan porch, fluted panels to pilasters, archivolt, and plain fanlight over half-glazed door with etched glass. Windows have sills; ground floor has 2 windows with 8/1-pane horned sashes, that to right bay has flanking windows to returns; 1st floor has 16-pane sashes. Returns have single-storey later additions, that to right with end canted bay window, that to left C20. Rear has 3 gables, the central gable smaller, and gabled wing to right.
