Bofors scandal

The Bofors Scandal was a major political scandal in India during the 1980s and 1990s pertaining to payment of bribery and kickback to top Indian and Swedish politicians by the Swedish arms manufacturer Bofors. The scandal ultimately resulted in electoral defeat of the ruling Indian National Congress party, and victory for opposition leader V. P. Singh at the 1989 Indian national elections.
