Jesse

Jesse or Yishai is described in the Hebrew Bible as the father of David, who became the king of the Israelites. His son David is sometimes called simply "Son of Jesse" (Ben Yishai). Jesse and David belong to the genealogy of Jesus.

• And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”

And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.”

  And His resting place shall be glorious.”

  And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
