Shemaiah

Shemaiah, also known as Samaia or Semeias, was a prophet during the reign of Rehoboam (1 Kings 12,22–24).

  • (To Rehoboam and his warriors, who wanted to fight against Israel) Thus says the Lord: “You shall not go up nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel. Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me. Therefore they obeyed the word of the Lord, and turned back, according to the word of the Lord.
  • (To Rehoboam and his officers, who had gathered in Jerusalem out of fear of Shishak) Thus says the Lord: ‘You have forsaken Me, and therefore I also have left you in the hand of Shishak.’
