Grand Championship Arc
Unwanted Guest [5.01-02]
Part 1
- Yugi: Finally some peace and quiet for a change.
- The Pharaoh: We needed this.
- Yugi: Yeah. After everything we've been through, it feels nice just to kick back. Is something on your mind?
- The Pharaoh: As a matter off act, Yugi, there is. It seems every time we restore peace to the world, a greater evil is waiting for us.
- Yugi: Yeah, you got a point there. But look on the bright side. Every battle that we fight also brings us one step closer to figuring out the secrets of your past.
- The Pharaoh: The three Egyptian God cards.
- Yugi: Yup. They're back in our deck again, which means it's time for you and I to pick up where we left off. As soon as we get back home, we're going straight to that history museum. and these three cards are gonna give us some answers.
- The Pharaoh: Let's hope so.
Part 2
- Joey: Hey, hold on! I know an insult when I hear one! LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M YELLIN' AT YA!
Let the Games Begin! [5.03-04]
Part 1
- Duke: Look! Joey's trying to scare the competition with his weird chicken dance.
- Téa: I need some female friends.
- Kaiba: [offers Mokuba to give him the microphone; speaks to the crowd] All right… I'm gonna make this brief. This is not a show. It's the ultimate test of survival, and it will push everyone involved to their limits. If you came for a friendly game, then I'd suggest you go home. This is a ruthless battle! And in the end, only one duelist will remain standing! Now, if everyone's clear, let's move on! From this moment forward, Kaibaland is a battlefield! So trust no one, and may the best duelist win!
- Crowd: [chanting] Kaiba! Kaiba! Kaiba! Kaiba! Kaiba! Kaiba!
- Joey: That show-off! He's just lucky he's not dueling!
- Kaiba: [thinking] I know one of these punks is trying to ruin me! And before this tournament's over, I'm gonna find out who!
- [Screen monitor shows Soloman (disguised as Apdnarg) in the Amazon Adventure trail to start his duel with Joey, but Joey is not there]
- Duke: Hey, where is Joey?
- [Joey appears in the stadium, eating two hot dogs]
- Yugi: [shocked] Joey! What are you doing here?!
- Joey: Hey! There's a two-for-one sale on wienies!
- Tristan: Joey!
- Mokuba: You should on the Amazon Adventure trail!
- Joey: Guess again, pal! Joey doesn't duel on an empty stomach! I gotta bulk up for my first match.
- Mokuba: Wake up! Your first match has already started!
- Joey: Huh?!
- Mokuba: And if you don't get your butt over to that dueling site in the next 10 minutes, THEN YOU'LL BE DISQUALIFIED!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: [as Joey activates his Graceful Dice magic card] Ah-ha! I had a hunch you might try that! And that's why I played this… Legendary Gambler!
- Joey: No! What was that?!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: This trap card automatically activates whenever my opponent rolls a die. So if I roll a higher number than you, your card is cancelled out!
- Joey: WHAT?! [rolls a 4] Four!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: [rolls a 5] Too bad!
- Joey: So what?! Joey always has a backup plan! [activates his Skull Dice trap] Now, Skull Dice will lower your monster's strength depending on what number I roll!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: The Legendary Gambler is a continuous trap card which means I also roll again!
- Joey: [rolls a 5] Five!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: [rolls a 6] Oh, well! Read it and weep!
- Joey: No!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Looks like we're back where we started! So, Wandering Mummy, attack his Swordsman! I know you, Joey. Better than you know yourself.
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Now I play… a magic card known as Ancient City!
- Joey: What is that thing?
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Well, as the card's name suggests, it's an ancient city, but that's just the beginning of my archeological assault! Next, I sacrifice Wandering Mummy… in order to summon my Ancient Giant! Of course, it comes with a slight catch. As long as it remains face up on the field, I have no choice but to attack you with it. And if I don't attack, then I lose 300 of my Life Points.
- Tristan: Joey doesn't stand a chance against that thing!
Part 2
- Soloman/Apdnarg: I'd suggest summoning a monster if you'd like to stay in the game, Joseph.
- Joey: I can arrange that. In fact, I'll play five for the price of one! Go, Goblin Attack Force! Now, knock his Ancient Giant right out of the ballpark, boys!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Not so fast, slugger! Activate Ordeal of a Traveler! This card is about to make the game more interesting. I choose a random card from my hand, and you have to guess whether it's a magic, trap, or monster card. If you guess incorrectly, your monster is returned to your hand. Guess correctly, and you can attack. So what type of card do I have in my hand? Let's go. You've got a 1-in-3 chance.
- Téa: Yugi's grandpa is beating Joey at his own game!
- Tristan: 'Cause he knows Joey's strategy. He did teach him how to duel, after all.
- Joey: Well, here goes. It's a trap card-- or a magic card. It's a monster! [having trouble guessing] I NEED MORE TIME!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: I'm not getting any younger.
- Joey: All right, my answer is… you're holding a trap card!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: [imitates buzzer] Survey says, "monster card!"
- Joey: That was my next guess.
- Soloman/Apdnarg: I'm afraid your goblins will have to wait. Now, my eyesight's not what it used to be, but it looks to me like you're defenseless!
- Joey: [setting a card facedown] I end my turn.
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Sounds good to me.
- Joey: All right, you wanna see some mad skills?!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Bring it on, kid!
- Joey: Here goes! Look out! Time to give my luck one more shot with a magic card called Roll of Fate! This card allows me to draw up to six new cards depending on what number I roll, just as long as I remove the same number of cards from the game.
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Now, Legendary Gambler, cancel out his roll!
- Joey: Wheeler gets a four, and the freak in the mask gets… a three! He shoots, he scores, he draw four cards! That's what I call a hand!
- Soloman/Apdnarg: Please tell me you're bluffing.
- Joey: You're about to find out, pal.
Child's Play [5.05]
- Vivian: [as Rebecca activates her Gravity Bind continuous trap card, preventing every monster with more than three stars from attacking; thinking] That little brat's gonna pay! No one makes a fool out of me! [speaking] This duel's far from done!
- Téa: Well, so far so good.
- Duke: I guess, but Rebecca's trap card affects her own monsters too. If they have more than three stars, she can't use them.
- Téa: That's not good.
- Yami Yugi: I'm sure that this is all part of her plan. She'll be just fine.
- Rebecca: Get a load of this! First… I'm activating Marie the Fallen One's special ability from the card graveyard! Now I automatically receive 200 extra Life Points for every turn that Marie remains in the graveyard. And to finish things off, I'll activate the special ability of my Fire Princess! So every time my Life Points increase, yours decrease by 500!
- Yami Yugi: I knew it.
- Yugi: Awesome! Rebecca's three-card combo allows her to automatically lowers Vivian's Life Points every turn!
Down in Flames [5.06-07]
Part 1
- Joey: The only thing I'm scared of is that hairdo. [turns to Zigfried] Hey, buddy! Pinky the Clown called! He wants his ring back!
- Rebecca: Oh, like you're in any position to be making fun of anyone's hairdo.
- Joey: I heard that!
- Duke: Take it down a notch, will you? You're too high-strung to duel.
- Joey: Who you callin' high-strung?! I'm cool as a cucumber!
- Tristan: Oh, yeah. Real cool.
- Joey: I'm not in a mood!
- Tristan: You want a piece of me? [he and Joey scuffle]
- Téa: [attempts to break up the scuffling duo] Can you two grow up for five minutes? [she gets pinned against the wall] I need some female friends!
- Joey & Tristan: [in unison] He started it!
- Zigfried: All right, herr Joseph, since you're clearly at a disadvantage in so many ways, why don't you make the first move?
- Tristan: [calling out] He's just messing with your head, man!
- Duke: Yeah, don't freak out. Remember, stay focused.
- Joey: Try to keep up! All right, let's see here. [becomes shocked when he has four spell cards and two high level monsters in his hand]
- Tristan: Gee, I wonder if he's got a bad hand.
- Yugi: I'm gonna say "yes."
- Joey: [thinking] I can't play a single monster!
- Zigfried: You're beginning to sweat. Is the molten lava getting to you or is it something else?
Part 2
- Zigfried: I'm in shock.
- Joey: And why's that?
- Zigfried: [chuckles] Beating you is more fun than I thought.
- Joey: Just go.
- Zigfried: Fine. I'll begin by activating this magic card… Nibelung's Treasure! This affords me the ability to extract another magic card from my deck and place it on your side of the field. So I present… Nibelung's Ring! And I also draw five cards.
- Joey: [as the ring is equipped to his monster] So what's the deal with the ring?
- Zigfried: There's no need to thank me, just consider it a gift. But we'll talk more about my generosity a bit later. Now, I must call upon the three divine sisters! The Goddess Urd, the Goddess Verdande, and the Goddess Skuld! Now it's one underdog against three divas.
- Joey: You mean four divas.
- Zigfried: Now, let the fun begin with the Goddess Skuld! Activate your Scepter of Revelation, and foresee the future! Each turn from now on, I'm able to see the top three cards in your deck, and rearrange them any which way I please.
- Joey: Huh? That's not fair!
- Tristan: Joey's future isn't looking too bright, guys.
- [Joey draws three cards from his deck and shows them to Zigfried]
- Zigfried: Interesting cards. Let's start by placing the middle one on the top. Then the first card, and then the third.
- Joey: Huh? I don't see what that's gonna do, but it's your call.
- Zigfried: You'll understand once I call upon Goddess Verdande! Her Scepter of Guidance gives me the opportunity to guess what type of card rests on top of your deck. If I happen to guess correctly, then you're forced to play that card facedown on the field!
- Joey: No way!
- Zigfried: Now I will go out on a limb here and say...your top card's a monster!
- Joey: Since you're the one that put it there, I'm not too impressed.
- Zigfried: Well, either way, you have to summon it facedown, so let's have it.
- Joey: Whatever.
- Zigfried: Finally, I call upon Goddess Urd! Each turn, she gives me the opportunity to guess the identity of one of your facedown cards! If I'm right, it's removed from play.
- Joey: Say what?!
- Zigfried: Let me take a wild guess. It's Panther Warrior. Looks like I'm right! Awww, parting is such sweet sorrow, isn't it? [chuckles]
- Yugi: First he took out Jinzo, and now it's Panther Warrior?
- Téa: But those are Joey's best monsters!
- Tristan: Not anymore.
- Zigfried: I think I've done enough damage. So go. And if you could, step it up a bit. I'm getting bored.
- Joey: It's official. He is the most annoying opponent I've ever faced.
- Yugi: He's eliminating Joey's best monsters one-by-one!
- Yami-Yugi: I have a feeling that's been Zigfried's strategy since the beginning of the duel. He's using his magic ring and his three goddesses to dismantle Joey's deck one card at a time!
A Brawl in a Small Town [5.08-09]
Part 1
- Joey: I was knocked out of the tournament by a guy with pink hair!?
- Tristan: A guy with pink hair who's an EXCERPT DUELIST.
- Joey: I wanna be Number One!
- Tea: Oh, will you grow up!? Trust me, there'll be other Duels!
- Joey: You're not runner up every year! That honor belongs to me!
- Leon: Here's one you might remember from your bedtime stories. You guessed it! It's Cinderella! And thanks to her fairy godmother, she'll be able to go to the ball. Cinderella automatically lets me summon my Pumpkin Carriage to the field.
- Rebecca: Ugh!
- Leon: With my Pumpkin Carriage in play, Cinderella receives a thousand point boost. Oh, and where would she be without her glass slippers?
Part 2
- Vivian: Just as I thought. I knew you couldn't resist my charm! All right, if you defeat me, then your Grandpa walks. If you lose, we go on a date.
- Téa: [infuriated]: ALL RIGHT, THAT'S IT! I'VE HEARD JUST ABOUT ENOUGH OUT OF YOU, TOOTS! GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD! YUGI DOESN'T LIKE YOU AND HE NEVER WILL!
- Joey: All right. Just breathe.
- Tristan: Even if Yugi loses, at least he gets a date.
- Téa: YUGI WON'T LOSE! SO DROP THE DATE THING!
- Yami-Yugi: All right, first I'll summon my Skilled Dark Magician to the field in Attack Mode! Second, I activate Pot of Greed, which lets me draw two more cards from my Deck! [The first Spell Counter lights up on the Skilled Dark Magician] Then, I'll play this - the Emblem of Dragon Destroyer! It lets me bring Buster Blader back to my hand! [Now another Spell Counter lights up on the Skilled Dark Magician]
- Vivian: What are those lights?!
- Yami-Yugi: They're Spell Counters! With every Magic Card I play, another one lights up! [Vivian gasps] I'm afraid there's more! My final Magic Card! It's known as Monster Reincarnation! So Dark Magician's back in my Deck! [The third and final Spell Counter lights up on the Skilled Dark Magician] And now all three of my Spell Counters are glowing! So I can sacrifice my Skilled Dark Magician in order to summon Dark Magician! There's more. I play Polymerization, fusing my Dark Magician with my Buster Blader! Behold the creature of your demise - my Dark Paladin! And there's one more thing you should know: Dark Paladin gets 500 ATK points for every Dragon on the field and in our Graveyards.
- Vivian: THAT CAN'T BE! I JUST SENT FOUR MY DRAGONS TO MY CARD GRAVEYARD! IT'S NOT FAIR! [Dark Paladin's ATK strength increases to 4,900 points]
- Yami-Yugi: Oh, it's quite fair. Now, Dark Paladin, wipe out her Dragon Lady and her life points! Game over.
One Step Ahead [5.10-11]
Part 1
- Joey: He summoned three monsters at once!
- Yugi: And Kaiba's Life Points are defenseless! So if Zigfried attacks with all three Valkyries, the duel's done!
- Mokuba: Come on, bro!
- Zigfried: Looks like we've reached the finale before we even begun. Auf Wiederssen! Valkyrie Zweite, attack his Life Points directly with Galloping Gash!
- Kaiba: I activate my facedown card! Go, Negate Attack! Looks like you're out of luck, and you're Valkyrie's out of steam.
- Yugi: Awesome! Thanks to Kaiba's card, Zigfried's turn is over! So his three Valkyries go back to his deck!
- Kaiba: Well, what are you waiting for, Zigfried? Call off your ponies! Their moment in the spotlight is over!
- Zigfried: [snickers sinisterly, revealing he activated a magic card] Thanks to this card, they've added a second performance!
- Kaiba: Oh, no!
- Zigfried: Oh, yes! Time for an encore! So why don't you just sit back and enjoy the show! Valkyrie Zweite, attack him directly!
- Téa: He's cheating!
- Mokuba: Yeah, those Valkyries should've returned to Zigfried's deck!
- Yugi: Hey, watch out!
- Kaiba: What do you think you're doing?!
- Zigfried: Winning, of course! You see, Mischief of the Time Goddess allows me to skip your turn, then I can pick up where I left off! Wiping out the remainder of your Life Points! So let's try this again.
- Mokuba: Seto! No!
- Kaiba: Not so fast! I reveal my Magical Trick Mirror! Here's the deal: it activates a magic card from your graveyard! And I choose Mischief of the Time Goddess!
- Zigfried: Not that!
- Kaiba: Let's see how you like it! Now your turn is skipped!
- Joey: He just bought himself a second chance. Don't screw this up, rich boy.
Part 2
Sinister Secrets [5.12-14]
Part 1
- Roland: And now, to kick off the festivities, please welcome a very special individual!
- Joey: [seeing the camera, asuming it's focusing on him] I thought you'd never ask!
- Mokuba: He's talking about my brother, not you, you nimrod!
- Joey: I knew that.
Part 2
- Yami Yugi: All right. The only way to get through to you is to duel you with all of my strength. Here goes! I'll begin by playing my Queen's Knight in attack mode! Now, attack his Forest Hunter with Majestic Sword Swipe! Next, I'll place one card facedown and that ends my turn.
- Leon: I was hoping you'd say that. All right. Thanks to the special ability of my Iron Cage, I'm able to bring an old friend back to the field. Of course, now that my Hans is back in the action, my Iron Knight's strength drops back to 700. But that doesn't worry me one bit, 'cause Iron Hans also lets me play this…another Iron Knight! And next I'll activate my Spinning Wheel Spindle! How's that?
- Téa: What can he possibly do to Yugi with a giant roll of string?
- Rebecca: [remembers] Wait, I know that card! I saw it in Leon's deck when I dueled against him. It's a monster destruction card!
- Leon: Time to reenact the story of Sleeping Beauty with your Queen!
Part 3
- Leon: I can't even control my own monsters.
- Yami Yugi: We'll be fine. [draws] Now… Since three turns have passed since you played Spinning Wheel Spindle, my Queen's Knight returns! For my next move, I'll place these two cards facedown on the field. And then I'll activate this! It's my Card of Sanctity! This magic card allows both players to draw until we're holding six cards in our hands. Now I summon my King's Knight in attack mode. And since King's Knight and Queen's Knight are both on the field, I'm able to summon Jack's Knight from my deck to join them!
- Zigfried: If you're through wasting everyone's time, may I remind you, your three knights are useless against my Golden Castle!
- Yami Yugi: I wouldn't be so sure. Now I activate… my Royal Straight! This magic card allows me to summon an extremely powerful monster from either my deck, my hand, or my graveyard. So behold! Royal Straight Slasher! And next I'll activate my Royal Straight Slasher's special ability! Now, when I send one monster from each of the first five levels to the graveyard, Slasher destroys every card on my opponent's side of the field!
- Joey: Nice thinking, Yugi! Trap and magic cards don't work, but monster abilities do!
- Yami Yugi: [sends every first five level monsters to the graveyard, one-by-one] Level one-- Kuriboh! Level two-- my Old Vindictive Magician! Level three-- Giant Soldier of Stone! Level four-- my Big Shield Gardna! Level five-- my Curse of Dragon! Now… destroy all his cards, including his Golden Castle!
Dawn of the Duel Arc
Tomb of the Nameless Pharaoh [5.15]
- Rex Raptor: That was a joke.
- Weevil Underwood: I gotta have a look at these things. [?] Hey! Wait a sec! Those aren’t Egyptian god cards! :[?]
- Yami Bakura: [evil laughter]
- Rex Raptor: Who’s there?!
- Yami Bakura: It hasn’t been that long has it?
- Weevil Underwood: I know you. You used to tag along with Yugi right?
- Rex Raptor: Listen, pal. You better not be after those god cards!
- Yami Bakura: I already have what I’m after thanks to you fools.
- Yugi: Who are you?! And what did you do to them!? [gasps] Bakura!? Is that you!?
- Yami Bakura: Guess again!
Spiritual Awakening [5.16]
- [Yami Bakura has sent the souls of Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood to the Shadow Realm, after they stole a bag from Yugi, containing the Millenium Items Yugi has gathered so far, mistakingly believing the bag contains the Egyptian God Cards instead of the Millenium Items]
- Yugi: Bakura, what have you done to them?
- Yami Bakura: [chuckles]
- Yugi: [demanding] Answer me!
- Yami Bakura: These two delinquents received exactly what they deserved, Yugi. They took possession of something that didn't belong to them, so I banished their souls to the Shadow Realm. [kicks the unconscious bodies] And I'd say the punishment fit the crime.
- Yugi: [horrified] You sent them to the Shadow Realm?
- Yami Bakura: You should be showing a little more gratitude. After all I returned your belongings. Well, most of them.
- Yugi: What's that mean!?
- [Bakura shows him the Millennium Ring]
- Yami Bakura: Take a look. There was one item in your bag of tricks that I'm not quite ready to part with. Besides it did belong to me at one time.
- Yugi: Give it back! The Millenium Items belong together!
- Yami Bakura: Eventually, they will be. In the meantime, why don't you concentrate on gathering other items instead of pestering me and when the times is right, I'll give you the Millenium Ring. We may not be fond of each other, but we do share a common goal: We both want all seven Millennium Items returned to their resting place, united once again within the Millennium Stone, just as they were so long ago.
- Yugi: I don't trust you! And I never will! I'm collecting the Millennium Items so I can help the Pharaoh save the world from destruction!
- Yami Bakura: And I gather you think that I have a different goal in mind. Believe whatever you wish. But remember, I know things about the past that your Pharaoh friend seems to have forgotten.
- Yugi: Oh yeah? And what kind of things are those!?
- Yami Bakura: I know that when the seven Millennium Items are returned to the Stone, a doorway to the spirit world will open.
- Yugi: [thinking] The spirit world? If that exists, it could be where the spirit of the Pharaoh belongs. [to Yami Bakura] Are you saying that when this doorway opens, the Pharaoh will be set free?
- Yami Bakura: You're catching on! So don't you want to help your friend? After all he's spirit's been trapped inside that puzzle for five thousand years.
- Yugi: Of course I do!
- [The Pharaoh takes over]
- The Pharaoh: [demanding] That's enough! Stop poisoning Yugi's mind!
- Yami Bakura: Ah, Pharaoh. To what do I owe this honor? Did you come here so we can bury the hatchet and join forces?
- The Pharaoh: [angrily] You know better than that!
- Yami Bakura: I know why you hate me. Because when you get right down to it, you and I are more alike than you'd care to admit. Isn't that right, Pharaoh?
- The Pharaoh: [annoyed] We are nothing alike!
- Yami Bakura: We're both five thousand-year-old spirits aren't we? Each one inhabiting the body of an innocent civilian? The only difference is: I remember my past. All your mind contains is an endless labyrinth of questions. Your whole life has been nothing more than a puzzle wrapped in a game and I happen to know the solution. It's quite ironic, actually. The only way you can solve that game is by playing a game.
- The Pharaoh: I don't know if you speak the truth, but I'll do whatever I have to! Game or no game! I will unlock my mind!
- Yami Bakura: Well, then best of luck. You're going to need it when the ultimate Shadow Game begins. Enjoy your travels, Pharaoh. [Thinking] That encounter went exactly as planned. Now on to phase two.
- Yami Bakura: Let the game commence. [draws] My move. First, I'll play Polymerization! Fusing my Earl and my Knight to form The Duke of Demise! But the rules forbid me to attack you. I suppose you got off easy this time, Kaiba.
- Seto Kaiba: My attack may have not destroyed your monster but it did remove 900 of your life points.
- Yami Bakura: [laughs] And you think that worries me?
- Seto Kaiba: I wouldn't be laughing if I were you.
- Yami Bakura: And why is that?
- Seto Kaiba: Well, for one, you're about to lose another 500 of your lifepoints thanks to your friend The Duke of Demise. Is that reason enough for you?
- Yami Bakura: No, because I have something far worse in store. First, I'll sacrifice my Duke in order to summon my Diabound Kernel! Then I'll activate the magic card, Spirit Illusion! It creates what's known as a doppelgänger, an exact duplicate of my monster, complete with all the power of the original.
- Seto Kaiba: [sarcastically] Wow. So, now you've got two useless monsters.
- Yami Bakura: We'll see about that! Go, Doppelgänger Diabound!
- Yami Bakura: I'll begin my turn by activating the magic card, Pot of Greed. That allows me to draw two more cards from my deck, and one of them happens to be Grief Tablet!
Memories of a Pharaoh [5.17]
- Ishizu: May I speak with the Pharaoh? [The Pharaoh's spirit takes over] My King, it is an honor. You have returned home. Allow me to be your guide.
- Yami Yugi: Please. The pleasure's mine.
- Téa: Pharaoh, I want you to have this. [takes out a metallic cartouche from her pocket]
- Yami Yugi: What is it?
- Téa: It's a cartouche. The guy in the store said Ancient Pharaohs used to carve their names on them.
- Yami Yugi: But this cartouche is completely blank, Téa.
- Téa: I know. That's why I bought it. I figured that when you get your memory back, you can put your name there. That way you can be sure you'll never forget it again. I remembered seeing a picture of one on that tablet, but the name on it was worn away. But hopefully, soon, your life won't be a mystery anymore.
- Yami Yugi: I don't know what to say. I'll never take it off.
The Intruder [5.18-19]
Part 1
Part 2
Makings of a Magician [5.20]
- Bakura: How can a mere spell-caster damage my Diabound!?
- Mahad: I refuse to allow Bakura to threaten my people, even if it means depleting my own powers. I must stop him! In the name the Pharaoh.
Birth of the Blue Eyes [5.21]
- Isis: Mana, Mahad's spirit is very much alive; existing deep inside that stone. In fat, he's even stronger now. My Millennium Necklace has shown me all. He fused himself together with his most trusted creature.
- Mana: What? I'm confused.
- Isis: Mahad has been transformed. He will now be known as the Dark Magician.
- Mana: Dark Magician? But my training is incomplete! And I need Master Mahad! I want to become an elite spell-caster! I can't do it alone!
- Seto: Wait. There is something familiar about this girl.
Village of Lost Souls [5.22]
A Reversal of Fortune [5.23]
In Search of a King [5.24]
- Shimon Muran: What a beautiful blessing this day has brought us, my king.
Village of Vengeance [5.25-29]
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
The Name of the Game [5.30]
- [Yugi, Joey, and Téa enter the Pharaoh's tomb and see his true name on the stairs, but little do they know, it's written in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics]
- Joey: Whoa! Check it out!
- Yugi: That must be the Pharaoh's name.
- Téa: Yeah, but what's it say?
- Joey: It says… bird, rock, lambchop, bird, and a bigger bird. So what's that mean?
- Téa: Just memorize the symbols. Now let's go. We have to find Tristan and get out of here.
The Dark One Cometh [5.31-34]
Part 1
- Yami Bakura: [about Yugi's "Marshmallon" monster] Is that a monster or a desert topping?
Part 2
- Yami Bakura: [laughs evilly] Perhaps, you could've used the Pharaoh's help after all... [viciously] you PATHETIC MORTAL! [laughs evilly]
Part 3
- [After Yami Bakura has activated the magic card "Counterbalance", which forces both players to send cards equal to the number of monsters on the field from the top of their Deck to the Graveyard by the end of their turn. An effect that would eventually lead into a deckout. Yugi questions Yami Bakura why would he risk losing all the cards in his own deck also, not knowing that the effect of "Counterbalance" doesn't affect to Yami Bakura, because he no longer has a graveyard due to the "Cursed Twin Dolls" magic card, he played earlier]
- Yugi: It doesn't make any sense!
- Yami Bakura: [laughs evilly] To work, it requires a graveyard and I don't have one. [mockingly] Guess that means I can't participate. I feel so left out. So, you're in this alone! Get it? This card only drains your deck!
Part 4
- Yami Bakura: But how? You were down to your last card!
- Yugi: I guess you can call it the luck of the draw!
In the Name of the Pharaoh [5.35]
- Joey: Great. We have the power to fly but we can't get a decent meal.
- Joey: We're doomed.
- Yami-Yugi: Yugi, were you able to locate my name?
- Yugi: Uh, yeah.
- Yami-Yugi: Well, then, what is it?
- Zorc: [chuckles evilly] These humans may have found the location of your real name, Pharaoh, however, they were unable to read it!
- Yami-Yugi: But why?
- Zorc: It's simple. The word in question is written in a language unfamiliar to them.
- Yami-Yugi: Is that true?
- Yugi: [sighs] It's true. We made it through your tomb, and there it was on the back wall. There was only one problem. Your name was carved in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics! I know what it looked like. I just don't know how to say it.
- [Yugi and his friends all stack their hands together and start to memorize the Egyptian symbols of the Pharaoh's name by concentrating as it starts engraving on the cartouche Téa gave to him]
- Yami-Yugi: Yes! It's working! Concentrate!
- Joey: [thinking] We won't let you down!
- Tristan: [thinking] I gotta remember those symbols!
- Téa: [thinking] Almost there!
- Yugi: [thinking] Pharaoh's name, appear!
- Zorc: I'm afraid once again, you're too late, humans! [strikes a blast at the gang, but is blocked out by Kaiba's Ring of Defense magic card] How dare you interfere! [strikes a blast again, knocking them off aside] It's over! [As the smoke clears, the Pharaoh's name is fully revealed on the cartouche] NO!
- Yami-Yugi: [looks at the cartouche] Yugi, it worked! It's my name!
- [Yugi and his friends all stand up on their feet]
- Téa: Pharaoh? Can you read the symbols?
- Yugi: Yeah, do you know what your name is?
- Yami-Yugi: Yes. My ancient name has been revealed! I am King ATEM!
- King Aknamkanon: You now possess the power to defeat the dark one, my son.
- Pharaoh Atem: How, Father?
- King Aknamkanon: By calling forth the light of the three Egyptian Gods to swallow the darkness.
- Pharaoh Atem: And now… Mighty gods of Egypt… I REVIVE THEE! [revives Slifer, Obelisk and the Winged Dragon of Ra]
- Téa: You think they'll win this time?
- Tristan: Of course!
- Yugi: Yeah, the Pharaoh knows what to do.
- Zorc: The Egyptian Gods are powerless against me! You already tried this and failed!
- Pharaoh Atem: Yes. But there's one thing I didn't do last time: Merge them together! Now I give you, the Creator of Light!
- Zorc: What?! Impossible!
- Pharaoh Atem: Darkness, BE GONE!
- Zorc: [as the Creator of Light vanishes him forever; last words] NO! I SHALL TAKE YOU WITH ME!!!
- Pharaoh Atem: Guess again, Zorc!
- Téa: So what happens now? I mean now you've saved the world?
- Pharaoh Atem: Wait for the next bad guy?
- Creator of Light: No, Atem. There will not be another. You have destroyed from where all evil is born.
- Pharaoh Atem: So I'm done?
- Creator of Light: No. But you are close. With the help of your friends, you'll nearly fulfilled your destiny. You have but one more task to complete before your spirit can return to its resting place.
The Final Journey [5.36]
- Bakura: Hello. Where are we?
- Joey: Wait a second, guys. I have a hunch this is the good Bakura.
- Bakura: Now…let me see. The last thing I remember was hearing a strange voice and then… [falls into Joey's arms, about to pass out]
- Joey: Whoa. Take it easy, pal.
- Pharaoh Atem: What's wrong?
- Bakura: I need some food.
- Joey: So do I. You don't see me passing out.
- Téa: Joey!
- Tristan: Look, we could all use a bite. It has been 5,000 years.
- Joey: Huh? [takes the Millennium Ring off Bakura's neck] I think he's got something that belongs to you, Yuge.
- Pharaoh Atem: Right. [thinking] Now that Zorc has vanished, so has the evil spirit of the Ring. So Bakura is finally free.
- Joey: Hey, guys! A little help here?! Thanks, Téa. Grab a leg, will you?
- Pharaoh Atem: [picks up the Millennium Key and Scale; thinking] Shadi… Please know that your items will finally be laid to rest. And thank you, my friend. [looks up at the tablet] Seto, according to the inscription on this tablet, you became a great pharaoh in your own right. You kept my father's dream alive by maintaining peace in Egypt. And knowing this, my spirit can finally go to its resting place.
- Yugi: Wait! What are you saying?
- Pharaoh Atem: I think you know, Yugi.
- Ishizu: My Pharaoh, were you able to recover your lost memories?
- Pharaoh Atem: Yes.
- Marik: Then after 5,000 years, our family's task is finally complete.
- Ishizu: You're right. And the Millennium items are gathered together at last. My King...
- Pharaoh Atem: I know. Now I must seal them away forever so I can enter the spirit world.
- Téa: You're leaving us?
- Pharaoh Atem: This is the final task of my mission, Téa.
- Téa: I guess I always knew. I mean, you came back here after all this time so you could save the world. And now that you've done that, you can finally rest.
- [Marik and Ishizu nod in agreement to each other]
- Ishizu: Pharaoh, if you and your friends would like us to, Marik and I can lead you to the final resting place of the seven Millennium items.
- Pharaoh Atem: You mean the Millennium Stone?
- Ishizu: And the inscription above this ancient stone reads as follows: "To the spirit world thou may proceed, but first thou must complete this deed. Return the items whence they came and speak aloud the Pharaoh's name." Are you ready for your final task?
- Pharaoh Atem: Yes.
- Ishizu: Then allow me to be your guide to the shrine of the next world.
- Marik: Yugi, before we go any further, there's something else you should know about all this. There's another ancient passage inscribed above the Millennium Stone. It mentions a battle ritual.
- Yugi: Did you say "battle?!"
- Marik: In order for the Pharaoh to enter the spirit world, he must first face off against a worthy opponent in battle and lose.
- Joey: What kind of battle do you mean?
- Marik: In ancient times, this referred to a duel with swords. But, luckily for us, today we duel one another with cards.
- Yugi: A duel?
- Pharaoh Atem: Exactly, Yugi. I must lose in a game of Duel Monsters.
- Yugi: I don't mean to be disrespectful, Marik, but I don't get what the challenge is in losing a duel.
- Duke: Think about it, guys. Winning is easy for the Pharaoh, but being able to accept defeat is probably the greatest test of his character there is.
- Téa: You may have a point there, Duke. But where are we gonna find a duelist who's good enough to beat the Pharaoh?
- Téa: [thinking] I know this is what's best for the Pharaoh. He doesn't belong in this world. And now that he has his memory back, he can finally be free. But secretly, I keep hoping Yugi's gonna lose, so the Pharaoh has to stay.
The Final Duel [5.37-40]
Part 1
- [The gang arrives at the Shrine of the Millennium Stone and Ishizu leads them down the stairs]
- Tristan: Dude, this duel is gonna be awesome!
- Joey: Yeah, Yugi vs. the Pharaoh? That's as good as it gets.
- [Téa comes to a stop with a worried look on her face]
- Tristan: What's up, Téa?
- Joey: You gotta use the little girl's room?
- Téa: Not quite. I was just wondering why we had to rush into all this so soon. This could be our final chance to hang out with the Pharaoh before he leaves us for good.
- Tristan: That's true. I was so pumped up for this duel, I forgot this might be his last one.
- Yugi: Yeah, me too.
- Ishizu: My friends… I know how difficult this must be, however, Yugi and the Pharaoh must carry out this battle ritual as quickly as possible. If too much time should pass, our window of opportunity will close.
- Yugi: We all know how you feel, Téa, but this is what's best for the Pharaoh. He doesn't belong in our world, and now his spirit finally has a chance to go home.
- Téa: [sighs, then lightens up] You're right. Let's do this.
- Joey: I probably don't say this as often as I should, Téa, but you know, you're one of the bravest people I ever met. I know this is tough for you, and I just want to say I'm proud.
- Kaiba: If you dorks start holding each other's hands, then I'm out of here. I didn't come here to listen to your lame friendship speeches.
- Joey: Maybe if you had some friends, you wouldn't feel that way!
- Tristan: That was harsh, man.
- Joey: Oh, like he didn't deserve it?
- Yugi: That's it! The resting place of the seven Millennium Items!
- Ishizu: [walks up to the Millennium Stone] All right, Yugi. [Yugi steps forward next to her with the Millennium Items in the duffle bag; kneels down] Before the ritual can begin, the Millennium Items must be returned to the Stone from whence they came. The Eye of Wdjat will then peer into your soul, Yugi, thus unraveling the Pharaoh's spirit from your own. Now, if you accept the terms of this ritual, then I'll ask you to place the seven items within the Millennium Stone.
- [Yugi takes out the Millennium Items from the duffle bag and places them into the Stone, one-by-one, and he then looks at the Millennium Puzzle for one last time]
- Soloman: [thinking] All of this began the day Yugi solved that Puzzle, and it will all end the moment he returns it.
- Yugi: All right, here goes. [remembers the day he put the Puzzle together and his wish was granted; thinking] And my wish did come true. The day I met my friends. [looks at all his friends] And thanks to you, Pharaoh, I'm ready to give it back. [takes the Puzzle off his neck and places it in the Stone]
- [All the Millennium Items glow and the Eye of Wdjat lights up, peering deep within Yugi's soul]
- Joey: I take it that's supposed to happen, right?
- Ishizu: The Eye is gazing deep within, searching for the spirit who dwells in Yugi's mind. Once they are separated, the ultimate duel can begin!
- Tristan: What's the deal?!
- Ishizu: The true nature of Yugi's soul has been revealed!
- [The Eye of Wdjat separates Yugi and Pharaoh Atem from one another]
- Joey: Hey, I'm seeing double!
- Soloman: No, it's the Pharaoh!
- Mokuba: No way!
- Téa: [gasps in surprise] Atem.
- [Yugi and Pharaoh Atem walk to opposite sides of the field]
- Tristan: Go get him, Yugi! Uh, you too, Pharaoh!
- Mokuba: Hey, wait. So which one of them are we supposed to root for?
- Téa: [thinking] If the Pharaoh wins, he gets to stay, which means we won't have to say goodbye.
- Joey: We gotta root for Yugi, guys! It's the only way to set the Pharaoh's spirit free!
- Téa: [thinking] Joey's right. I should want what's best for the Pharaoh. And that's for his spirit to move on. I have to be strong!
- Marik: It's time.
- Ishizu: The battle to determine their destinies will now begin.
- Pharaoh Atem: [thinking] This is the first time in my life that I've hoped for my opponent's victory. But in order for this duel to truly test our readiness to separate, I must fight with all my strength.
- Yugi: [thinking] Pharaoh, now that you've left the Millennium Puzzle, I can't hear your thoughts anymore, but somehow I still know what you're thinking, and I feel the same way. If you taught me anything, it's to put your heart into your deck and duel with everything you've got. And that's exactly what I'm gonna do!
- Kaiba: I guess we're about to find out who the true King of Games is.
- Joey: Here we go.
- Téa: Come on.
- Pharaoh Atem: Are you ready for this?!
- Yugi: That's what we're here to find out, right?!
- Yugi & Pharaoh Atem: LET'S DUEL!
- Pharaoh Atem: Best of luck, Yugi. [makes the first move] Now… I'll start by discarding one card from my hand in order to summon a monster known as The Tricky! Then I place one card facedown and end my turn.
- Yugi: [thinking] His monster may have 2,000 points, but I know how to stop it! [speaking] Check this out! I activate my Swords of Revealing Light!
- Joey: Now that monster can't attack for three more turns.
- Yugi: And next I'll call my Green Gadget to the field in attack mode! And thanks to his special power, I can move Red Gadget from my deck to my hand! Then I place one card facedown, and that's all for now.
- Pharaoh Atem: You think that's good? Watch this! [thinking] I may not be able to attack Yugi with my monster, but I can attack him with his own. [speaking] I activate the magic card-- Rebellion! Now I can select a monster on your side of the field and force it to attack you directly! And I choose your Green Gadget!
- Yugi: Hold on! You triggered my trap! So now, I activate Stronghold the Moving Fortress! This trap is also a monster with 2,000 defense points, so my Life Points are safe!
- Pharaoh Atem: I'm afraid your Life Points aren't as safe as you think, Yugi!
- Joey: That's right! Green Gadget was Yugi's monster!
- Bakura: I can't say I ever seen a duel as evenly matched as this one.
- Joey: What do you expect? These guys shared a brain for years.
- Pharaoh Atem: [thinking] We never had those cards in our deck before. I wonder what other surprises Yugi has in store.
- Yugi: [thinking] With this new deck I've assembled, the Pharaoh's never gonna figure out my strategy!
- Pharaoh Atem: [thinking] His cards may keep me guessing, but do they have what it takes to stand up to the most powerful creatures in Duel Monsters: The Egyptian Gods?!
- Yugi: [joins his three gadgets to his Moving Fortress] Whenever these three gadget monsters are on the field at the same time, they're able to raise the attack strength of my Moving Fortress to 3,000 points!
- Joey: I taught that kid everything he knows, folks!
- [Téa chuckles]
- Yugi: Stronghold the Moving Fortress, attack! Steel Gear Crush! [his monster then gets trapped in the Swords of Revealing Light] What happened to my Stronghold?!
- Pharaoh Atem: He's trapped, thanks to my Bounce Spell! This magic card allowed me to transfer the effect of your Swords of Revealing Light to your monster! Now it can't attack for three more turns.
- Yugi: [thinking] Whoa! Now what am I gonna do? I wasn't expecting that. I guess the Pharaoh really is trying his hardest to defeat me. [speaking] I switch my Green Gadget into defense mode and end my turn.
- Pharaoh Atem: [thinking] Yugi, in my heart, I hope you win. But that doesn't mean I plan to go easy on you. [speaking] It's my move. [draws] And I'll start by sending my monster to the graveyard in order to activate the magic card, Tricky Spell 4! This allows me to summon as many Tricky tokens as you have monsters on the field. That gives me four monsters as well!
- Mokuba: Whoa, the taller Yugi just evened it all up!
- Kaiba: Not exactly. If he's about to do what I think he is, then he's way ahead of the game.
- Pharaoh Atem: I'm not finished yet. Not even close! I'm taking this duel to the next level!
- Yugi: No way!
- Kaiba: I knew it.
- Joey: This is Yugi's shot to finally prove himself. He usually takes a backseat during duels. But this time, Yugi's in control of his own deck! So, now instead of standing behind the Pharaoh, the two of 'em are standing face-to-face for one last duel!
- Téa: Yeah, but can Yugi win?
- Joey: [thinking] It's gonna be tough. But if anyone can do it, Yugi can.
- Pharaoh Atem: This could be my last move. To begin, I'll place one card facedown. And, next, I'll play my Card of Sanctity magic card! Now, we both draw until we're each holding six cards in our hand! Ready?
- Yugi: As ready as I'll ever be.
- Pharaoh Atem: Well, here goes. I'm afraid if this works, the duel is over. May the heart of the cards guide you, Yugi.
- Yugi: Thank you.
- Pharaoh Atem: Now, let's see if you can withstand the great fury of an Egyptian God!
- Yugi: Go ahead, give me your best shot, Pharaoh!
- Pharaoh Atem: I sacrifice, my Queen's Knight, my Jack's Knight, and my King's Knight!
- Kaiba: Is he…?!
- Marik: He is!
- Pharaoh Atem: [chanting] Almighty protector of the sun and sky, I beg of thee, please heed my cry.
- Ishizu: The ancient chant! He knows it!
- Pharaoh Atem: Transform thyself from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight. I beseech thee, grace our humble game. But first I shall...call out thy name, WINGED DRAGON OF RA!!! Behold, the third Egyptian God!
Part 2
- Yugi: [thinking] He just summoned the most powerful cards in the game!
- Pharaoh Atem: Behold! The three Egyptian Gods!
- Kaiba: This isn't exactly brain surgery here, folks. It's pretty obvious that only one of the two Yugi twins inherited the dueling skills, so why even watch? Looks like his little secret is out. Yugi can't duel his way out of a paper bag, so he got his look-alike to duel for him. [starts to walk away]
- Joey: Get back here, rich boy! This duel ain't over till it's over!
- Tristan: Joey's right!
- Téa: Yeah, how 'bout showing a little respect?!
- Kaiba: Do you losers honestly believe that Yugi can still win?
- Joey: You bet!
- Kaiba: Then answer me this: What possible combination of cards would you use to defeat all three Egyptian Gods?
- Joey: What's your point?
- Kaiba: I rest my case. You're as clueless as Yugi is.
- Joey: Look, pal, I may not have the answer, but there is one! Come on, Marik, you're the expert here. What's their weakness?
- Marik: Well, individually, they have drawbacks, but when all three are together, they're practically indestructible.
- Ishizu: Only fate can decide the outcome of this ritual. If Yugi is unable to defeat his alter ego, then the two are not yet meant to separate from one another. If this occurs, the Pharaoh will be trapped here for another 5,000 years.
- Téa: That's not fair. [thinking] I'm so confused. I want the Pharaoh to stay, but not if it means trapping him against his will.
Part 3
- Mokuba: [surprised after Yugi defeated the three Egyptian Gods] Whoa! No way!
- Kaiba: I guess Yugi really did have a plan, after all.
- Joey: Did you see that?!
- Marik: He beat the Egyptian Gods?
- Duke: In one move?!
- Joey: And I never expected any less from you, Yuge.
- Soloman & Bakura: [holding hands and dancing in a circle; singing happily] He did it, he did it! He's better than the Pharaoh!
- Soloman: No offense, of course.
Part 4
- Pharaoh Atem: [thinking] This was the greatest duel of my life. It's been an honor, Yugi.
- Duke: What's Yugi waiting for? All he has to do is attack and the duel is over.
- Bakura: That's just it. Once his Magician attacks, the Pharaoh will be released and we'll never see him again.
- Duke: Wait! So did Yugi win the duel?
- Ishizu: If this attack is successful, then yes!
- Pharaoh Atem: Congratulations. Well done. Yugi, a champion doesn't stand on his knees. You've achieved a great victory for us both.
- Yugi: [tearfully] I was focusing so hard on playing the game, that I forgot what winning this duel would actually mean. By defeating you, I sent you away. For good.
- Pharaoh Atem: No, you have opened the door for me. Thanks to you, my spirit can finally be at rest. I'll be back where I belong. Fate brought the two of us together for a reason. And we fulfilled our destiny… We protected mankind from the return of the Shadow Games.
- Yugi: I'm gonna miss you.
- Pharaoh Atem: You do realize we will never truly be apart, right? The gift of kindness you have me and the courage I've given you will remain with us.
- Yugi: Right.
- Ishizu: Now that the battle ritual is complete, the Eye of Wdjat that guards the door to the spirit world has awakened. And the spirit of the great Pharaoh, which was trapped within the Millennium Puzzle for 5,000 years, is now free.
- Téa: So, this is it?
- Ishizu: The time has arrived. Tell the Eye of Wdjat your name!
- Pharaoh Atem: I am the son of King Aknamkanon. My name is Atem!
- [last lines of the series]
- Tristan: So this is the end? Feels weird.
- Joey: Yeah...
- Kaiba: What were you geeks expecting?
- Joey: Fireworks, sappy music... something! At least make one of your little wrap up speeches, Yug.
- Yugi: Well, sometimes the end of one adventure is just the beginning of another.
- Joey: Ah, much better.
