Type species: Melissodes atripes Cresson, 1872: 63 by original designation, and monotypy.
Gender: masculine
See Nomenclatural note on stem name Melissodes per ITIS: "Apparently the gender of Melissodes has always been treated as feminine by bee specialists. However, Doug Yanega (in litt., May 2008) has suggested that the gender should be masculine under ICZN Art. 30.1.4.4."
