- Holotype: CAS 219212, adult ♂, collected by R.E. Stoelting.
- Type locality: “Beach below Sao Joaquim, Príncipe Island, Republic of São Tome and Príncipe (1°37’19.87’’N, 7°22’13.10’’E)”.
- Etymology: Named for the Island of Príncipe of the Republic of São Tome e Príncipe, to which it is endemic.
