As with all nothospecific names Meconopsis × sheldonii represent all crosses with the same parentage. Either species can act as the female parent. Meconopsis 'Bobby Masterton' is sometimes highlightend as the "real" Meconopsis × sheldonii but this view has no taxonimical value. The cultivar, possibly, can only act as the clonotype of this nothospecies.
