From Proto-Albanian *štšentra, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱéntrom (compare Ancient Greek κέντρον (kéntron), Old Armenian սանտր (santr), սանդր (sandr)) with s-mobile, from *ḱent- (to prick; point) (compare Latvian sīts (hunting spear), Old High German hantag (pointy)).
