Etymology

From earlier *çonjë, possibly from Proto-Albanian *skēnja, possibly cognate with Gothic 𐍃𐌺𐌴𐍅𐌾𐌰𐌽 (skēwjan, to go).[1] Alternatively, from Latin exciēre.[2]
