ŝargi (present ŝargas, past ŝargis, future ŝargos, conditional ŝargus, volitive ŝargu)

1. to load (an apparatus with what it needs to function, esp. a gun with a cartridge)

   Ĉiun pafilon oni ĉiam traktu, kvazaŭ ĝi estus ŝargita.

   Any firearm must always be treated as though it is loaded.

   Ŝargu, celu, pafu!

   Ready, aim, fire!

2. to charge (a battery, electrical device, substance, particle, etc., with electricity)

   Ho, ve! Mi forgesis ŝargi mian poŝtelefonon kaj nun ĝi mortis.

   Oh, no! I forgot to charge my cell phone and now it's dead.

3. (computing) to load (a software program, a file, etc.)

• Ŝargi and ŝarĝi can both translate "to load," but in different senses. Ŝargi means to put into an apparatus what it needs to function, e.g. to place a bullet into a gun, to charge a battery with electricity. Ŝarĝi means to load in the sense of to impose a burden; for example, to load a vehicle with cargo for transport.
• The direct object of ŝargi is the device, etc., that is the recipient of the charge: ŝargi pafilon per kartoĉo, ŝargi kameraon per filmo, etc.
