Ŵ (lower case ŵ)
- The letter W, marked for its long stressed pronunciation, either in a monosyllabic word or in the final syllable of a polysyllabic word.
Usage notes
- In practice, this letter also takes on the function of Ẅ, namely to indicate the syllabic vocalic pronunciation of the vowel distinct from adjacent vowels e.g. dŵad, sŵau rather than expected *dẅad, *sẅau. This is not the case for other circumflex-marked vowels.
