Univerbation of the Katharevousa phrase ἐν τάξει (en táxei), modelled after Ancient Greek ἐν (en, “in”) τάξει (táxei, “order”), the latter a dative form of τάξις (táxis). Calque of German in Ordnung.

     Εκρινα όμως σκόπιμο, να μη μαζέψω αυγά και κοτόπουλα για τον ταγματάρχη, μια και είχα την πρόφαση ότι δεν είχα τηλέφωνο και δεν ειδοποιήθηκα για την επιθεώρησή του. Ο ταγματάρχης έκανε επιθεώρηση, τα βρήκε όλα εντάξει και έγραψε στο βιβλίο «όλα καλώς». Όταν όμως θα έφευγε και μου ζήτησε τι του έχω μαζέψει και του είπα ότι δεν είχα ειδοποιηθεί για την άφιξή του, μου έβαλε μέρες φυλακή!

     I thought it prudent not to collect eggs and chickens for the Major, seeing as he had the excuse of me not having a phone and that I hadn’t been alerted to his inspection. The Major carried out his inspection, found everything in order and wrote down in his book ‘all is well’. When he was to leave, however, and he asked me what I had collected, and I said that I had not been told about his departure, he threw me into jail for days!
