In the 'delivery' sense, a learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἐπίδοσις (epídosis, “giving, donation”), per the meaning of επιδίδω (epidído, “to deliver, to hand over”) In the 'performance' sense, a learned borrowing from Ancient Greek ἐπίδοσις (epídosis, “increase, advance, progress”).[1]
