κορίαννον
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- κορίαμβλον (koríamblon), κορίανδρον (koríandron), κορίανον (koríanon)
Etymology
Szemerényi points to the comparison with Akkadian 𒌑𒄷𒌷𒌝 (úḫurium; ḫuriʾānu), but this does not explain the -d- in Mycenaean Greek 𐀒𐀪𐀊𐀈𐀜 (ko-ri-ja-do-no /koriʰadnon/) / 𐀒𐀪𐁀𐀅𐀙 (ko-ri-a2-da-na /koriʰadna/). Beekes supposes that the cluster -dn- implies a Pre-Greek origin and hypothesizes that *koriaⁿdro- may have been dissimilated from *koriaⁿdno-.
