Inherited from Byzantine Greek ξεκαθαρίζω (xekatharízō) < ἐξεκαθαρίζω (exekatharízō), from Koine Greek ἐκκαθαρίζω (ekkatharízō) (ἐκ- (ek-) > ξε- (xe-) +‎ καθαρίζω (katharízo)).[1]
