πλαίσιον

Ancient Greek

Etymology

No relation with the synonymous πλινθίον (plinthíon), but a direct loan from Lydian 𐤡𐤩𐤠𐤳𐤬 (plašo, socle). This word is related to Hittite [script needed] (palzaḫ(ḫ)a-, pedestal). Furnée also appropriately adduces πλάτας (plátas, basis of a tomb), which is very likely to be Anatolian origin.
