σκαίρω

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Of unclear origin. LIV connects Welsh cerdded (to walk), suggesting a derivation from a Proto-Indo-European *sker- (to jump), however this is not ascertained.[1] Note also Proto-Slavic *skorъ (fast), which may also be from this root, if it exists.
