Learned borrowing from Koine Greek συγκλίνω (sunklínō, “to reconcile”), from Ancient Greek συγκλίνω (sunklínō, “to lay together”), with semantic loan from French converger.[1] By surface analysis, συγ- (syg-) +‎ κλίνω (klíno).
