τρίναξ

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Traditionally derived from τρῐ- (trĭ-, three) +‎ ἀκή (akḗ, point, extremity). However, Furnée compares θρῖναξ (thrînax, three-pronged fork), suggesting a Pre-Greek origin, in view of the variation θρι-/τρι- and the typical substrate suffix -ᾰξ.
