беґель
Pannonian Rusyn
Etymology
Genericization of Serbo-Croatian Bègēj / Бѐге̄ј (“Bega”). Differing final consonant likely from informal usage of a Hungarian-based orthography pre-standardization of the Cyrillic orthography, with begely being attested in the late 19th century, noting that in modern Hungarian, ly is pronounced /j/ and not /ʎ/. The shift is thus seemingly a conflation of Pannonian Rusyn ль (lʹ) and Hungarian ly.
