Etymology
Inherited from Old Ruthenian *ѣжа (*jěža), from Old East Slavic *ѣжа (*jěža), from Proto-Slavic *ěďa, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *ḗˀdjāˀ. Compare dialectal Russian е́жа (jéža), Ukrainian ї́жа (jíža), dialectal є́жа (jéža).
