Inherited from Old Ruthenian звы́чай (zvýčaj), from Old East Slavic съвычаи (sŭvyčai), from Proto-Slavic *sъvyčajь. Cognate with Russian свы́чай (svýčaj) and Ukrainian зви́чай (zvýčaj).
