Borrowed from German isolieren, German isolieren +‎ -овать (-ovatʹ) (per Shansky, however, French isoler +‎ -овать (-ovatʹ)). Several steps omitting from Latin īnsula (whence also и́нсула (ínsula), инсули́н (insulín)).
