кужаль
Belarusian
Alternative forms
- куже́ль (kužjélʹ) — obsolete
Etymology
Inherited from Old Ruthenian ку́жель (kúželʹ), further etymology uncertain, there are two primary explanations:[1]
- From some Germanic language; compare Dutch konkel, Middle High German Kunkel, chonachla and Old High German chunchla.
- The second and less likely is from Proto-Slavic *kǫžel, *krǫžel.
Cognate with Ukrainian кужі́ль (kužílʹ), ку́жіль (kúžilʹ), Russian ку́жель (kúželʹ).
