From Proto-Mordvinic *lam ~ *lom, inherited from Proto-Uralic *ďëme (“black cherry, bird cherry”); whence Finnish tuomi, Estonian toom, Northern Sami duobma, Komi-Zyrian льӧм (ľöm) and Northern Mansi ля̄м (lâ̄m).
