стрижень

Ukrainian

Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic стрьжьнъ (strĭžĭnŭ),[1] from Proto-Slavic *strьžьnь (core; nucleus; pivotal part). Melnychuk posits a connection with Swedish streke for the sense 'deep stream'.[2]
