Inherited from Old Slovak trojo, from Proto-Slavic *trojь. Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn тро́є (tróje) and Slovak troje.

Usage notes
- Only the plural form трої (troji) is used with most plural-only nouns. However, for describing young animals (including дзеци (dzeci)), тройо (trojo) is used. Regardless, the two forms are both declined as plural adjectives in oblique cases.
