Etymology
Borrowed from substrate. Reconstruction of the Proto-Nakh form is impossible because of irregular correspondences, contrary to Starostin and Nikolaev. Cognates include Ingush ӏаж class bb (ˀaž).
Possible cognate with Chechen хьа̄ч class bd (ḥʳaač, “cherry plum [Prunus divaricata]”), Ingush хьач class bb (ḥʳač, “plum; plum tree”).
