Etymology 1

From French bore, later reinforced by Russian бор (bor). Alternatively, can be said to be built from բորակ (borak, borax), as in other languages.

Etymology

From Iranian *bor (leprosy). Compare Sogdian [script needed] (βrʾwkʾ /⁠βarūkə⁠/, leprous). Perhaps related to the source of բորենի (boreni). See also ուրուկ (uruk).
