Etymology

Borrowed from Middle Median *nižōg or Parthian [Term?] (/⁠*nižōg⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *nižaugah (male horse, literally ejecting seminal fluid), from the prefix *niž- (out, away) + the participle of *aug- / *auǰ- (to be wet; to emit fluids; to sprinkle). See also վարուժան (varužan).
