An Iranian borrowing; compare Parthian 𐫤𐫇𐫋- (twj- /⁠tōž-⁠/, to pay back), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (twc- /⁠tōz-⁠/, to atone, expiate), Persian توختن (tuxtan, to pay a debt). Doublet of տուգան (tugan). Related to Old Georgian ტოზიკი (ṭoziḳi).
