הירס / הֵרֵס • (herés) (pi'el construction)

1. to destroy, to overthrow.
   • Exodus 23:24:

     לֹא־תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה לֵאלֹהֵיהֶם וְלֹא תָעָבְדֵם וְלֹא תַעֲשֶׂה כְּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם כִּי הָרֵס תְּהָרְסֵם וְשַׁבֵּר תְּשַׁבֵּר מַצֵּבֹתֵיהֶם׃

     lo-tishtakhavé leiloheihém v'ló ta'avdém v'ló ta'asé k'ma'aseihém ki harés t'har'sém v'shabér t'shabér matzevoteihém:

     Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.^[1]

   • Isaiah 49:17:

     מִהֲרוּ בָּנָיִךְ מְהָרְסַיִךְ וּמַחֲרִבַיִךְ מִמֵּךְ יֵצֵאוּ׃

     miharú banáyikh m'har'sáyikh umakhariváyikh mimékh yetzé'u:

     Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.^[1]
