  1. to lift oneself up, exalt oneself
  2. to be arrogant
    • Tanach, Proverbs 30:32, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:
      אִם־נָבַ֥לְתָּ בְהִתְנַשֵּׂ֑א וְאִם־זַ֝מּ֗וֹתָ יָ֣ד לְפֶֽה
      im-naválta v'hitnasé v'ím-zamóta yad l'fé
      If you have been scandalously arrogant, if you have been a schemer, then clap your hand to your mouth.
