מִסְדְּרוֹן • (misderónm (plural indefinite מִסְדְּרוֹנוֹת, singular construct מִסְדְּרוֹן־, plural construct מִסְדְּרוֹנוֹת־)

  1. (obsolete) A vestibule, foyer, anteroom.
    • Tanach, Judges 3:23, with translation of the King James Version:
      וַיֵּצֵא אֵהוּד הַמִּסְדְּרוֹנָה וַיִּסְגֹּר דַּלְתוֹת הָעַלִיָּה בַּעֲדוֹ וְנָעָל׃
      vayetzé ehúd hamisd'róna vayisgór d'latót ha'aliyá ba'adó v'na'ál.
      Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlor upon him, and locked them.
  2. (modern) A corridor, hallway, hall.
  3. (by extension) A corridor: a narrow strip of land connecting a state to an area or to the sea.

Usage notes

  • The plural forms מִסְדְּרוֹנִים and מִסְדְּרוֹנֵי־ are attested but less common.
