מצא חן בעיני

מָצָא חֵן בְּעֵינֵי • (matsá khén b'ené)

1. to please, be liked by, seem good to (lit. to find grace in the eyes of)

   יִשְׂרָאֵל מְאוֹד מוֹצֵאת חֵן בְּעֵינַי.

   yisra'él me'ód motsét khén b'enáy.

   I like Israel a lot.

     וְנֹחַ מָצָא חֵן בְּעֵינֵי יהוה.

     v'nóakh matsá khén b'ené YHVH.

     But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

     כי רציתי למצוא חן בעיניו

     ki ratsíti limtsó khén b'enáv

     because I wanted him to like me

• Note that the expletive מְאוֹד (m'ód) precedes this phrase in a sentence: יִשְׂרָאֵל מְאוֹד מוֹצֵאת חֵן בְּעֵינַי (yisra'él me'ód motsét khén b'enáy, “I like Israel a lot”).
