From the root ס־ג־ס־ג (s-g-s-g). Like the noun סגסוגת (sagsóget, alloy), from סיג (sig, dross, base metal) through reduplication,[1] in turn derived from סוג (sug, kind, class),[2] with original verbal meaning of "to turn away, reject" as well as "to hem in, bind, fence in".[3][4] See also: סייג (siyég, to enclose, fence in).
