Etymology

From the root פ־ח־ד (p-ḥ-d); perhaps originally an intensive form of פָּחַד (pakhád), hence “to fear greatly”.

    • Tanach, Proverbs 28:14, with translation of the King James Version:

      ashréi adám m'fakhéd tamíd umakshé libó yipól b'ra'á.
