Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *artuk (more, much), a development from *art- (to increase), whence آرتمق (artmak, to increase, augment). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰺𐱃‬𐰸 (r¹t¹‬q̊¹‬‬ /⁠artuq‬‬⁠/), Azerbaijani artıq, Chuvash ытах (yt̬ah), Kazakh артық (artyq) and Uzbek ortiq.
